ASSESSMENT IN YEAR 8

As you will see each subject page makes a reference to assessment practices. These vary according to the requirements of the different subjects.

As a staff, we have been working on effective ways to give feedback to pupils and this means that not every piece of work will be marked. The emphasis is on more specific and detailed marking of certain pieces of work with targets and suggestions for further development. Please do not hesitate to talk to the subject teacher or head of department should you require further clarification of this or any other aspect of your child’s work.

MENTORING

A mentoring scheme is in place in year 8 for those pupils who have been identified as underachieving in a number of subjects. The aim is to help them with their organisation and to set targets. The programme runs for several weeks for each pupil with a weekly meeting with the mentor, Mr Parsons. Should your son/daughter be put forward for mentoring you will receive a letter with further details.

Any concerns about underperformance should, of course, be raised with the Form Tutor or Senior House Tutor.
