| Access to the Internet via e-mail
and the World Wide Web (WWW) in schools is rapidly becoming
the norm. The Internet enhances the teaching and learning environment
for both pupils and teachers; Government commitments to provide
online access for all schools with pupils and teachers; Government
commitments to provide online access for all schools with pupils
funding, and with initiatives such as Laptops for new head teachers
and loans to teachers for PC's are helping to encourage and
advance the use of the new technology generally in education.
The Internet has enormous potential both as a
tool for teaching and supporting teachers in their work and
also provides a forum for interacting with a wider peer group,
for example through email discussion lists. These groups are
developing a members-only web site which members will be able
to use at any time to discuss current issues, link to other
relevant information and access professional advice and guidance.
The Internet is a whole world to discover - full
of interesting facts, images, and people. Like the real world,
the virtual world of the internet also has its dangers, so it
pays to be aware of potential threats before they arise.
Are you concerned about safety online? Perhaps
you have had experience, there are some great filtering software
available to use as a precautionary measure.
The" Acceptable Internet" is a policy document which
spells out what anyone accessing the Internet in school may
and may not do. It must be signed by all those who use the school
equipment before they are given access to the Internet.
A copy of the Internet agreement will be sent
to all parents over the next few months, please ensure you read
and sign the agreement.
Although Internet access
is bringing many benefits to the School's there are a number
of issues relating to acceptable use which need to be addressed,
and the school's policy towards them spelled out.
