to make it just one goal and eight defeats in the last eight games. The most worrying thing for Hammers fans must be that Chesterfield fully deserved their victory outplaying Alan Pardew’s premiership outfit in all areas of the pitch. If Pardew doesn’t start to put things right very quickly he may find an unwanted present in his Christmas stocking, his P45.

Essex miss out on promotion


A final day defeat for Essex against Leicestershire sees the county side resigned to another season in Division Two.

The match was littered with five centuries as the two teams manufactured a result. The game would surely have ended in a draw if it was played out honestly, but cricket doesn’t seem to work that way any more.

 
COWLEY SIGNS FOR BRENTWOOD TOWN

Ex Hall Mead teacher Nick Cowley has started the football season in fine form for his new club Brentwood Town. Having scored eight goals in just five games he has helped Brentwood Town race to the top of the Essex Senior League Premier Division.

Brentwood Town play their home matches at the Brentwood Centre and face Concord Rangers there on Saturday 28th October
