As parents, you may look back on your school
life and remember the trouble you had with long division, spelling,
chemical equations, irregular verbs or with learning to sew.
The Learning Support Base of
the School is here to help encourage any pupil who finds just
such a difficulty. We do this in a variety of ways. Support staff
work with departments and teachers either offering advice or supporting
pupils in lessons. Small groups of pupils come to the Learning
Support rooms for extra help with reading, spelling and writing.
We work in partnership with parents by giving advice, reporting
on progress and providing materials to use at home.
We also run a lunchtime Homework Club providing
a quiet place to work. Staff are there to help and computers
and reference books are available. Everyone is welcome.
The department has Successmaker and Autoskills
independant learning programme which allow students to work
at their own pace and level while also addressing their needs.
These are available before school, at lunchtime, and after school,as
well as being part of our teaching programme.
In Years 10 and 11, we offer
Option Support Course for the pupils who may need extra help and
advice with their GCSE work. Computers and subject specific materials
are readily available.
