ASSESSMENT
The Geography Department uses the Key Stage
3 strategy’s assessment for learning to assess students’
progress. In Years 7, 8 and 9 students will be asked to complete
an assignment once a term. This assignment will be linked to the
topic they are currently studying and can take a variety of forms,
ranging from a project (e.g Year 7 Crime and the community project)
through to designing a web page (Year 8 coasts). The students’
work is assessed and given a level using an assessment grid. (LINK
TO EXAMPLE) This allows students to clearly see how well they
have done. They will also be given an effort grade and teachers
will make comments on the back of the grid and students will also
be given opportunity to comment on how well they think they have
done.

GEOGRAPHY MARK SCHEME
The emphasis is on target setting. Exercise
books will be
checked once a month and given an effort grade if applicable.
(i.e. depending on the nature of the work completed.) Students
will mainly be given targets which they should read carefully
as they will help them improve their work.
TEXT BOOKS
At Key Stage 3 the students use the following
text books:
Year 7 – The UK
Year 8 – Europe
Year 9 – The World
In addition the students will use the Geog 1,2 and 3 range published
by Oxford University Press.
Students will be given a username and password
which will allow them access to the Geog World website. They can
use this website 24 hours a day.
