MATHS DEPARTMENT

Earlier this year; the Mathematics Faculty entered over 75 pupils from years 8 and 10 for a national mathematics competition. This competition is designed and run by the United Kingdom mathematical Trust. This year over two and a half thousand schools took part, entering a total of some 200,000 pupils. Pupils sat a one-hour quiz paper, consisting of 30 questions and problem solving. The last 10 questions were very difficult and would tax the mind of any young mathematician.

There is not a pass mark in such a competition but Pupils can be awarded certificates of Bronze, Silver or Gold depending on their performance.

SUMMER CONCERT

On Wednesday, 10th July, the Hall Mead Summer Concert took place in front of a packed audience and was very special as it was one of the last one to be led by Mr George Larkey before his retirement at the end of the year. The programme represented items, which had particular memories for Mr Larkey of the last thirty years he has been at Hall Mead, and a number of former pupils returned especially to take part - Peter Thompson, Abigail Dance, David DiBlasio and Gillian Hall ( who later became Head of Music herself before moving on). Sadie Poulton, Kayley Bishop, Elise Harper, Michaela Ellis, Sophie Cridland and the Blues Band (who allowed Mr Larkey to join them) also took part, together with members of the cast of "Grease" who performed two items. Mr John Dorsett led the Choral Time and the Staff choir sang two songs.

Sponsored Run
The Hall Mead Annual Sponsored Fun Run/Walk took place on Friday, 11 October, when our 1006 pupils did three laps around the fields and woodlands of the Brickfields area in Cranham, totalling approximately 3000 miles! The purpose of the run/walk is to raise funds for the School.

Mr Connell has arranged this event for many years and this Fun Run/Walk is the last one to be organised by him before his retirement next year - so it would be great if the aim for this year - to raise £10,000 - can be achieved.
