ITS A HAT TRICK!

In 1998, our Year 7 rounders' team had a dream and that was to be the Havering Borough Champions. Little did they know that this passion was going to take five long years to achieve. Despite various semi-final plays and runners-up honours, it seemed by Year 10 that this dream was beginning to die. However, the team's determination never wained and just before they left school, Year 11 team did themselves proud and brought home the Champions Cup.

After Year 11's success, the Year 10 Rounder's team were ready to take on the rest of the Borough in their Havering Rally. Playing superbly well, the team quickly dismissed the other teams in their section and only met some strong opposition in the semi-final against Abbs Cross. They won this match convincingly and in the final met old rivals, Coopers Coburn who beat Hall Mead last year. Hall Mead batted first and established a good score - Coopers Coburn 'catch up' performed well but were never a real threat and Hall Mead comfortably won the match, becoming Havering Champions.

Then it was Year 9 Rounder's team's turn - this team had become the champions in the previous year as Year 8's and they had no intention of returning to school without a trophy! The defending champions cruised their section and met Gaynes in the semi-final - a good team but clearly out of their depth when faced with the team from Hall Mead. In the final, facing Coopers, our girls knew what they had to do to win and with excellent hitting and field skills they did just that, our third team to become Havering Champions.

Our Year 8 team, beaten finalist last year, were excited about the prospect of becoming Havering Champions. The earlier rounds were somewhat a formality but the semi-final against Sacred Heart was tough with Hall Mead narrowly winning by half a rounder. This was enough to get us into the final against, guess who, Coopers Coburn. Unfortunately, although we put up a good fight Hall Mead just did not have the quality hitting to beat their old rivals from last year.

Summing up, Hall Mead Year 7 to Year 11 teams have played 53 matches this season and to date have only lost the one match. AMAZING!
