Notes for guidance

GCSE Exam Results - For Pupils aged 15 at 31.8.06 and on roll on 15.1.06 (ie year 11)

(a) Summary Table

Pupils who are entered for the GCSE and complete the required work, including sitting the appropriate examinations, are awarded a letter grade A* (Best) to U (worst) in each subject. If they fail to complete the work or are absent from the examination they are counted as N/A (No Award)

The summary table shows the GCSE results obtained by pupils who are 15 years old at 31.8.05 (and on the school roll in January 2006). The table includes results from previous exam sessions. However, if the same GCSE subject has been taken in consecutive years (or sessions), only the best result is recorded.

To allow comparison the table also includes the average results for England in 2006

(b) Subject Results

The Tables in this section show the number of pupils gaining each grade in each GCSE subject taken by the school, with the core subjects listed first; ie English, Mathematics and Science. The other subjects are then listed in Alphabetical order. (Please note that pupils can enter for a number of different Science GCSE's. Science single award and Science double/dual award are combined Science subjects, and include elements of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Science double award counts as two GCSEs, each with the same grade. Science dual award is similar, but two GCSEs may have different grades.

% of Year Group entered

There is an extra column in the table which applies only to the results for English, Maths and Science. This reports the percentage of the whole year group which was entered for those subjects. This is reported because all pupils study these subjects until the end of their compulsory education.
