SCHOOL COUNCIL CONSTITUTION

1. COMPOSITION

Pupils - 2 per year plus deputies. Sex to have equal representation. 1 representative elected by form and voted for.

Pupils

  • Head Boy and Head Girl/or deputies 2+2=4
  • Senior House Prefects
  • Elections to take place - Year 7 in January and Year 9 in March

Nomination of all candidates for Council membership will be made by form tutors and or existing members and voting will then take place by the year group concerned Any elected member who fails attendance at two consecutive meetings without reasonable excuse (to be determined by judgement of Head Boy and Head Girl and Manager) will be replaced.

2. OFFICERS

School Council Manager to be nominated by Head with staff approval. The Chair will be managed by the Head Girl and Head Boy either jointly or in turn. They will prepare the Agenda in consultation with the Manager(s) and Head Master/Deputy.
Each Senior Prefect to take a turn at taking the minutes.

3. CO-OPTION

It may be necessary to co-opt particular teachers and/or pupils concerned with particular items on the Agenda. Investigative or work sub committees appointed by Council may have need of co-opted members.


4. FREQUENCY

Council shall meet half term - dates entered on school calendar. Extraordinary meetings may be called as requested by HM, Senior Prefects and Manager in joint consultation.

5. REPORT BACK AND PUBLICITY

School Council Assemblies will be written into the school calendar. Senior House Prefects shall report back to their House at Assembly following which a general report will be made public on House or Council notice board and to year Reps. (who may consult back to Tutor group Reps.) for discussion. Report also posted to Staff notice board. Each from to receive a copy of minutes in form of Newsletter. Return form at end of minutes.

6. RECOMMENDATIONS

Any recommendations made by Council to HM shall be by simple majority. When there is indecision a 2nd vote will be held then a casting vote will be given to Chair. the recommendation shall then go to HM for consideration. The HM or his Deputy will report back to Council at next meeting.

7.AGENDA

Items may be presented by any pupil (via Council post box) for consideration by Head Girl/Head Boy, Senior House Prefects and Managers. Matters may be submitted for Council's attention after staff meetings and form discussions. Items for discussion must be given to the Manager prior to meetings in order for Agenda to be drawn up.
No House may submit more than 2 items in order that realistic discussion can take place. Any sensible item not presented will e recorded by Senior Prefects in a file for that purpose. Agenda shall be posted on staff notice board and pupil Council board 2 days prior to the meetings and given to members of Committee.

8. OBSERVERS

Council meetings will be open to non participatory observers. (A governor link may be worthwhile + parent ?) but by invitation.

9. REVISION

The Constitution shall be deemed to be under permanent review.
