What is the HMFA?
All parents of the School are automatically
members of the Association and the Committee is made up of a cross
section of those parents together with parents of past pupils and
also the Head Master, his Deputies and other members of staff. If
it were simply called the Hall Mead parents/Teachers Association,
it would exclude many parents who retain an active interest after
their children have left School and whose experience and ideas are
invaluable. Meetings are held at the School on the second Tuesday
evening of each month during term time.
What does the HMFA do?
The Committee's function is to provide the
organisation for social and fund raising activities. These include;
dances, jumble sales, race meetings, quiz evenings, School discos,
a Christmas Craft Fayre, Murder Mystery evening and lots more draws
and raffles. In the last five years, we have raised over £150,000.
. Meetings are not a forum for complaints or criticism, personal
or otherwise, but matters of concern to parents are discussed from
time to time and the Head Master keeps the Committee informed about
developments within the School
Why does it do it?
The need to raise additional funds for the
School is clear. Members are concerned only for the best interests
of the pupils and their education. The Committee tries to provide
extras that are not available from the Education Authority funds-
greater comfort, more and better teaching aids and equipment to
benefit pupils and help staff to provide an ever improving service.
There are many examples of the HMFA's support
for the School, but fundamental is the fact that the range of purchases
should be of benefit to as many pupils as possible through the different
departments at the School.
How can parents help?
New Committee members are needed each year,
and whilst we appreciate that not every parent has the time to belong
to the Committee many parents may like to be involved in some way
to assist the Association and directly or indirectly, their own
children. Practical help at the various events is never refused
(for example, manning stalls at Jumble sales or the Christmas Fayre).
The provision of cakes, plants, or other saleable items is also
most welcome. On other occasions we seek parents' support for our
sponsorship events, draws and subscriptions.
Any voluntary work in the School is always much
appreciated i.e. the Library, the gardens, or any other skills that
can be put to good use. The HMFA is affliated to the National Confederation
of Parent/Teacher Associations
