LATEST FANTASY FOOTBALL NEWS

NEW MATCHUP GAME
Give yourself the chance to win a brand new SFL T-shirt every week! Just predict the number of points you think your team will score each weekend (including Monday night matches), and you could be a winner.

To help yourself predict the number of points your team will score in the week ahead
, we suggest you go to the fixtures page to see who is playing who that weekend. This may help give you a better idea of how many points your players could score in the matches ahead.

Next you might want to use a spreadsheet to help you calculate your team's total. So, if you have Thierry Henry in your team, and you think he will score 2 goals in his match, type a six in next to his name (1 goal = 3 points, so 2 goals = 6 points). Once you have decided on the score for each player, simply calculate the total at the bottom of the page.

If you correctly predict the number of points that your team will score, you will be in with a chance of winning a t-shirt. After submitting your team scores you will be taken to a 'tie-breaker' screen. The tie-breaker will be used if more than one manager correctly guesses their team's points. In the tie-breaker box above you must type the total number of goals that you think will be scored in all the weekend's Premiership matches. Once you have decided on the number click the 'SUBMIT' button.

The Match Up weekly competition is open every Wednesday morning and closes on Saturday before 11.00. So make sure you get your predictions submitted in plenty of time.

Then sit-back and enjoy the weekend's football action! On Tuesday you might just have yourself a new t-shirt.

Rules of the Game

Team Selection

Each entrant (or manager as you'll be known) has a total of £70 million to spend on your team. No more than 3 players can play for the same Premiership club.

Just pick your team of 11 Premiership players from the player list, but remember the rules:

If a player changes Premiership club during the season, for the purpose of the game, his starting club will remain unchanged for the duration of the season. (The player's points become based on his performance at his new club).

If a player moves out of the Premiership then he stops scoring points for your team. You can sell him at the next transfer window and bring in a new star.

FA Cup matches count towards a separate FA Cup league that starts in January 2006.

Scoring Points

There are 4 ways that your players will score points:

Players are awarded 3 points for each goal they score.

The attacking player who makes the last pass before a goal is scored gains 2 assist points. In the case of a penalty, if the fouled player takes the penalty no assist is given. It is possible for two players to get an assist for the same goal.

Goalkeepers and defenders who play at least 45 minutes get 1 appearance point, but lose a point for each goal that they let in whilst playing, so beware letting in 3 goals loses you 2 points.

Goalkeepers and defenders who play for at least 75 minutes and manage to avoid letting in a goal score 2 extra points (Total of 3 points for a clean sheet, including the appearance point).

There are special cases in some of the rules which you may read about below.

For example, two players can get an assist for the same goal. A good example is when a corner is flicked on from the near post to a player who then scores. In this case we would give an assist to both the corner taker and the player who flicked on the corner (so long as he is on the attacking team).

Appearance Points are awarded to a defender or goalkeeper who is on the pitch for at least 45 minutes, including extra-time (for FA Cup games). Defenders or goalkeepers appearing in only part of a game will lose one point per goal conceded while playing. Therefore, a player playing a full game and conceding one goal will score zero points whereas a player playing for 30 minutes and conceding one goal will score minus one point.

If no goals are conceded while playing, goalkeepers and defenders will receive the extra two points for a Clean Sheet, so long as they are on the field for 75 full minutes or more. (i.e. Defenders starting the game will need to be substituted in at least the 76th minute in order to obtain the two additional points.)

The decision of Fantasy League will be final on all these matters.
