The History National Curriculum criteria involves
the use of sources as evidence, investingating the content of
the sources and considering the content of when and where the
sources were produced and by whom. Also, pupils need to appreciate
that interpretations based on these sources vary and themselves
change over time.
To practice these skills and concepts, year 9 students study
the battle of the Somme and the role of the British commander
Haig to assess the quality of his leadership and the success of
the British army fighting on the Western Front. Were the British
soldiers "lions led by donkeys" or has the leadership
of Haig been unfairly criticissed?
Here are some of the sources used by Year 9 students when they
consider their answers. |
